Details for the SRVAS 2012 Workshop
The Saskatchewan Wildlife Art Association Inc. presents the Fifth Annual Saskatchewan River Valley Art School,
to be held at The Shekinah Retreat Centre on the North Saskatchewan River near Waldheim, SK. Registration deadline is May 2, 2012, and the classes will run from May 17th to 22nd,
2012. You can find full details on the Saskatchewan Wildlife Art Association's website.
From the brochure: "Christina Langman is a wildlife artist specializing in photo-realism in colored pencils. As a member of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Art Association her work has won many awards over the years in their annual “Reflections of Nature” show, including the prestigious Open Best in Show and People’s Choice awards. Her unique self-taught technique is different than how colored pencils are traditionally used, as you will discover while taking this workshop. In each two and a half day workshop, the techniques for blurred backgrounds, fur, whiskers, and most importantly – eyes – will be demonstrated and discussed in depth. Each session will use a different reference photo (Session one: Andy the Cougar, Session two: Dane the Bobcat - see below) but the techniques learned can be applied to any subject matter, as the focus will be on learning the blending of colors and textures that colored pencils can achieve. No previous experience with drawing or pencils is required, and this workshop can be enjoyed by artists and those claiming no artistic skill alike! Please visit www.BigCatArt.com to learn more about the artist and the workshop. If you have any questions for the instructor, please e-mail her at BigCatArt@gmail.com
Supplies will be provided by the instructor at a cost of $50/student (per two and a half day session) or $65 if taking both classes, payable directly to the instructor the day the class begins. All supplies needed for the workshop will be included in this cost, and students may keep their supplies for future projects at home. Anyone with Prismacolor pencils (PC900 and up) may bring them along, but all students will be required to purchase the supplies package. Students may bring their own reference photos to try in colored pencils as well.
The reference photo for the first session (2.5 days from May 18-20) will be a photo that I took myself at the Triple D Game Farm in Kalispell, Montana, this fall. The subject is "Andy the Cougar" and he was a fantastic animal to photograph. He was calm and collected, and posed nicely, allowing me to capture many such images like this. As you can see, this image will be a great study in blurred backgrounds and detail in eyes, fur, and whiskers.
The reference photo for the second session (2.5 days from May 20-22) will also be a photo that I took at the Triple D Game Farm in Kalispell, Montana, featuring Dane the Bobcat. Another great example of all the key features in my artwork, and a wonderful expression on the cat's face.
