Christina Langman (nee Toews) was born in 1983 and was raised in the small towns
of Onoway, and later Hanna, Alberta, where from a young age she aspired to be an artist.
Right from the time she was old enough to hold a pencil, she was drawing
animals of all sorts, including wildlife, horses, big cats (and little
cats), dogs, and even people (even if they were just stick men!). She
is mostly self taught in her art, although she's had some inspiring teachers
through her high school art classes. Christina graduated Valedictorian of her J.C. Charyk High School class in
2001.
As an active member of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Art Association (SWAA),
Christina competes in their annual art competition and exhibition
"Reflections of
Nature", held every fall in Saskatoon, SK. In 2005,
"Serenity"
(the colored pencil snow leopard) caught everyone's attention as her first entry
into a professional competition. The artwork took 2nd Best in Show in
the Intermediate skill level, as well as First in Class and Best in
Division. Now competing in the Open skill level, Christina took First Best in Show Open
in 2006 with her tiny "Leopard's Eye" ATC (2.5" x 3.5"), and she was successful
in 2007 too. Not only had she been invited to judge for the show (Juniors, 2006) but she has even put
on a workshop on how to do "Eyes in Clayboard", and it was a lot of fun!
In 2008, Christina had another great show. She won First Best in Show Open with "Snow Leopard's Eye",
and won the first ever "People's Choice" award (votes cast by thousands of public guests) with
"Repose"! She also taught her colored pencil technique, in a sold-out workshop at the show.
As well as participating in the SWAA, Christina is a previous member of both the Regina Federation of Artists (RFA) and the Prairie Artists Guild (PAG) both in Regina.
Being a professional full time artist has always been Christina's dream, and
she is still continuing to live that dream and work on her art each and every
day, in her own home studio. Now working entirely in colored pencils, she strives for stunning
photo-realism in her work, catching the very essence of each animal she
portrays. "The best compliment I can receive is for my artwork
to be mistaken for a photograph" says Christina.
Christina and Duke (her Great Dane - Great Pyrenees cross) live in Saskatoon, SK, where she finally has the perfect dedicated home studio to work from. Complete with workspace, framing station,
professional printer and computer set-up, Christina is expanding her career to offer framing of her work as well as print services for other artists. She is thorougly enjoying Saskatoon,
and looks forward to expanding as an artist locally and nationally (and even internationally!)
